Forecast Discussion
Low pressure tracking from the lower Mississippi Valley through the Tennessee Valley today and tonight will direct rich, Gulf of Mexico moisture into the western Carolinas. Rain will be the by-product, and it could be heavy at times through tonight. This will serve as more excellent drought relief after a wetter-than-normal December.
A cold front will signal an end to the rain Wednesday morning. Colder air will arrive Wednesday afternoon and evening, and a round of flurries or snow showers is expected Wednesday night and Thursday morning. No significant accumulation is expected in the French Broad Valley outside of a dusting, but some light accumulations are likely along the NC/TN border areas. Thursday will be cold with temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s.
Temperatures will moderate a bit on Friday with a good deal of sunshine. Yet another cold front will bring a few showers into the mountains and foothills on Saturday, before another reinforcing chilly air mass arrives for Sunday.
