HIDE Free Start Your Own Business Workshops in Watauga County
Entrepreneur Workshop Series Begins October 28th
Do you have a business idea, but aren’t sure where to go next? We can help. There will be a free workshop series offered to entrepreneurs in the High Country beginning Tuesday, October 28th.
Watauga County, the Appalachian Regional Development Institute (ARDI), and other partners have joined together to deliver a unique approach to promoting entrepreneurship and small business development. This program, the Watauga Entrepreneur Development Partnership (WEDP), is designed to develop a local entrepreneur and small business support system, assist people with business ideas to start their own enterprises, and establish a culture of entrepreneurship and self-employment in the region.
The WEDP will be offering a series of free workshops for aspiring business people looking for that extra push forward to try out their business “dream.” The workshop instructors from Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business are specialists in entrepreneurship. Throughout the workshop series, participants will be taught business skills and be given the resources necessary to take their next steps for beginning a business.
HIDEThe first in the series of three free workshops begins on October 28th, with successive workshops on November 11th and December 2nd. All workshops are held from 6-9 pm in the Appalachian Enterprise Center located next to the Watauga County Human Services Center at the corner of King Street and Poplar Grove Connector. The workshops are offered as a series…not as individual classes. The deadline to register is Friday, October 24th. For detailed information, go to www.ardi.appstate.edu and click on Start Your Own Business Workshop Series.
Participants will assess their interests and skills as well as discuss the pros and cons of entrepreneurship and self-employment. In addition, participants will work in groups to discuss business ideas and review business needs in the community. The second and third workshops build upon each other to begin the process of turning an idea into an actual business by working on the elements of a business plan. During the 3rd workshop, the participants will be paired with a mentor, an established business person or consultant who will provide first-hand information and real-world advice. These mentors have volunteered their time and expertise.
This is the ninth workshop series offered to aspiring entrepreneurs in the region. Its tremendous success proves that entrepreneurs are both prevalent in the High Country and are willing to take a chance when they find a supportive community. There is no charge to participate in any of the workshops.
Support does not stop with the end of the workshops. It is vital for the success of the program that all involved – from the aspiring entrepreneurs, successful business people in the community, mentors, service-providers, government officials and interested citizens – stay involved to create a supportive environment for entrepreneur and small business creation through the High Country Business Network. All workshop registrants will receive notices of upcoming HCBN events and notices will be placed in regional media.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in these workshops, go to www.ardi.appstate.edu. If you have any questions, please contact Chilton Rogers at 262-6662 or rogersc@appstate.edu.
