...FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOW OF THE SEASON NEAR THE TENNESSEE BORDER... .In the wake of a seasonably strong cold front, moist northwesterly winds will produce impactful snow accumulations in the mountains of North Carolina near the Tennessee border and far northeast Georgia through early Tuesday. ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TUESDAY ABOVE 3500 FEET... ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TUESDAY BELOW 3500 FEET... * WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 9 inches along the Tennessee border beyond what has already fallen, with isolated spots in the Smokies possibly seeing an additional 12 inches. Amounts generally will be less at lower elevations and in areas farther from the Tennessee border. Winds will gust as high as 45 mph on ridgetops. For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow. Additional snow accumulations of generally 1 to 3 inches will occur below 3500 feet, but locally higher amounts are possible.
